International Mintz Grant 2018
This grant supported travels to Punta Gorda, Belize for a creative film project. Sheeba was one of two grant recipients to develop an individual project that linked international travels with cultural storytelling.
The Garifuna People are believed to be descendants of Africans being transported to the U.S. that were never "enslaved" due to a transit shipwreck. African survivors of this shipwreck intermixed with the natives of St. Vincent & surrounding areas, becoming the Garifuna Peoples known today.
The film worked on documenting the daily life of a modern day Garifuna family, their history and the sacred Barranco village.
This project marked the start of my grants and film journey. Animator: KE Animation
